This sounds pretty much along the lines of The Walking Dead zombies, so in the spirit of unoriginality, it's likely that's exactly what we'll see.
Try Star Trek Online concept of the Borg.
They've been using the concept of less flesh more machine
for a couple years. If we have to have (uggh) the Borg, then I want them to actually be frightening again, a real threat; no more of this space vampire shit from First Contact and Voyager.
