I watched STiD last night for 3,000,000th time and I thought of this one.
5. Spock and Uhura.... Yes Uhura was flirtacious with spock in TOS, but WTF? Actually I said that out loud in the theatre before I caught my self. I have problems with a lot of characters acting out of character.
In TOS I don't think it would have worked at all. However in the JJ Abrams movies it works. There is chemistry between the two actors and their characters that was not there in the 60s show.
I also think NuSpock is a little more emotional than Spock Prime.
For the time period the show was made. Yeah, I don't think they could have done it. I think the censors and Execs would have shit the bed. For all the latter day hype, TOS wasn't that progressive
; it was still pretty safe in terms of what they did.
In-universe: I think it could have worked. There's a bit of a hint in "That Which Survives"--could have the wrong episode title--and Charlie X. Would have worked a lot better than Chapel pining away for S]pock.
Edit: It's "Who Mourns For Adonais" and "Charlie X", that I was thinking of; knew I had one wrong.
And, even in TOS, Spock's a Player:
Must have picked up some moves from Carl.
