Anything that could actually kill the Doctor after a 1000+ years is more than bogstandard. Or some punk just got lucky.
Or he took a dive, reasoning that he had to die there or certain things would never happen (eg every adventure River's ever had).
I'm wondering if Moffat will actually go through with it, considering that the Doctor may already have regenerated twelve times (counting The Stolen Earth
/ Journey's End
). All they need in order to circumvent the Doctor's death is for a handy receptacle for his "data ghost" to turn up, and that's essentially happened more than once already (Chameleon Arch / fob watch, DoctorDonna, 10B). I can even imagine Jenny returning and making "the promise" when the Doctor's mentality is merged with hers.
