Christopher doesn't have seven paid cast members expecting to get plenty of things to do
in his novels, so he can farm out subplots to aliens who'd usually get two (or no) lines onscreen, or be wearing a latex appliance that precludes dialogue.
That's true - lol. Mind you, Kitty Pryde was played by three different actresses in the X-Men trilogy. While it might have been nice for her to have had a more significant role from the first movie, her presence in cameos was welcomed by fans and when she eventually played a major role in the third movie the actress picked was great (and probably one of the best things in the film actually). There are ways and there are ways.
