Paramount employed that strategy with "Star Trek" which is why from 1987 to 2005 they always had a series on-air and in-production. I think that if "Star Trek Into Darkness" has a boffo opening and demonstrates it has "legs" than we'll see new Trek on television.

I also believe TPTB would like to make an attempt at trying to beat SyFy and Disney into the marketplace.
