One challenge was to sell the weight and scale of the ships that ranged from a 30 foot shuttle to the new Enterprise at 2,357 feet long, to the nemesis ship, the Narada, five miles long.

ILM recognized the challenge of fitting those shuttles into the starship. However, when reading the article at Memory Alpha about the Enterprise, it is clear to me that ILM couldn't settle on a final number.

I think what is evident to me is that the new Enterprise is a significantly larger ship than her prime universe counterpart.
