Goldsmith, in my factual opinion, is one of the few (perhaps the only) composer to generally outmatch even John Williams. He not have Williams's power, but unlike Williams, he doesn't repeat each main theme six times with minimal variation. Well, in STAR TREK V, MAYbe.
True, but I can't imagine Goldsmith ever composing anything like Williams' scores for Close Encounters of the Third Kind
