Goldsmith, in my factual opinion, is one of the few (perhaps the only) composer to generally outmatch even John Williams. He not have Williams's power, but unlike Williams, he doesn't repeat each main theme six times with minimal variation. Well, in STAR TREK V, MAYbe.
Horner was in his prime during the 80s, especially with TREKS II, III and ALIENS. In the 90s he developed a noticeable habit of directly lifting excerpts of his previous film into his current one.....even if it made no legitimate sense.
But where is the love for Leonard Rosenmann? He was absolutely great. In FANTASTIC VOYAGE and THE CAR, anyway.
