It's described as "a unique blend of documentary, alternative history and science fiction thriller," and follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter's moon Europa in search of possible alien life.

The film was written by Philip Gelatt and produced by Wayfare Entertainment’s Ben Browning.

Production Designer Eugenio Caballero who received an Oscar nomination for his work on "Pan's Labyrinth."

“The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnet Releasing, genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, announced today that they’ve acquired Us rights to Europa Report, a groundbreaking science fiction film
Magnolia will release the film later this year.

This likely means VOD followed by theatrical followed by disc, as is Magnet’s way.
By incorporating real world scientific research, ship design and mission planning, the film presents an authentic vision of what the next step in human exploration will look and feel like, putting the audience inside the ship with our international crew. Through the perspective of the astronauts, the audience will experience space as it truly is and marvel at the beauty, the vastness and the unknown.

we haven't had a movie like this since 2007's Sunshine.
and the TV series Defying Gravity with the generally similar plot: 'six-year space mission through the Solar System'.
It reminds me visually of the spaceflight of 2010: The Year We Make Contact (1984) and some of Mission to Mars (2000), Moon (2009) and Space Cowboys (2000). No ray guns, no space battles. Just scifi. It's been a long time since Sunshine and Moon was at the cinema.
