I'm about 3/4's of the way through this tale, and I just have to say I love the character interplay and banter on display here! It's a testament to your and AJ's writing that I'm riveted to a story where really nothing much has happened yet (action-wise).
The strength of your dialogue, the character development, and the descriptive settings all work to keep the reader fully engrossed and wondering how these officers are going to gel into an effective crew (or at this point, whether that's even possible?).
