The comics vary greatly, I was pretty disappointed in the Shepherd Book one. There is no way it told us the story of the man who Jubal Early says "that ain't a shepherd" about, the man who got instant medical treatment from the Alliance.

There is one unfilmed script by Cheryl Cain, who wrote "War Stories," called "Dead or Alive." Some of it was incorporated into "The Message," but it is a good script on it's own. . . http://www.whedon.info/article.php3?id_article=8136
