He did mention that right before you meet the right person, you have to make a big mistake. Sounds like Abby Elliot is Ted's mistake, and that as soon as he's done with her we're going to meet the mother. But either way, we're supposed to be meeting the mother this year, anyway... that wedding is guaranteed to happen in 2013.
