Abrams helped revive Star Trek
as a profitable and popular film franchise after the flopocalypse that was Nemesis.
He handled it with just enough skill and love to make it one of the most popular films of 2009 and the only Trek film to date that's won an Academy Award.
I'm giving J.J. the benefit of the doubt with Episode VII. Can he do any worse than Lucas trying to direct emotion out of the Sears window mannequin named Hayden Christensen? Let him have his shot. I'd rather it be J.J. than George at this stage in the Flanneled One's career trajectory.
