I always liked to think that was a difference in perspective between humans and kryptonians. The Kryptonian symbol is the gold parts with the red being background. Human eyse pickout the red as the fore color and see the "S".
I also read an anecdote that John Byrne always drew it that way, seeing the fish shaped gold parts foremost. |
