...I use film reviews for general impressions, not a specific up/down vote. If virtually every review of a film says the same good or bad things about it then I give that some weight. I've also looked to find critics who generally have similar taste in movies to me, though I don't have one of those right now.

I've watched a film, for the same reason I read threads like this - to see what other people thought - but I've never based my decision to watch a film or not on someone else's opinion, critic or otherwise.
I also find the notion postulated earlier in this thread, that people who don't listen to critics are somehow loyal only to one genre of film and blinkered to any poor quality entries to that genre, utterly moronic.
