Back to the future has us believe that thinking fourth dimensionally is about anticipating how the future will impact on your current planning, that unbuilt bridges will be built by the time you timetravel over them, or it's like how Fry in Futurama was taught that time with Space Invaders that you shoot where the space invaders are going to be, and not where they're at already right now.
Then if you think back to Wrath of Khan, they took him out easy because he was only thinking two dimensionally
