One other tip I've found that has helped me. When you're in a phase, kill all the enemies you can. You can take your time with them because they won't re-pop. In between difficult battles, I like using instrospection with my Jedi, which heals me and my companion which helps me get ready for the next one. Killing them all will often unlock secondary objectives.
