I also started playing a few weeks ago with a few friends who had played in the past. We "finished" the game last week (god, that end poem...that's 10 mins I'll never get back) and this week we switched over to Tekkit.
I did manage to built one Trek thing, a
Danube runabout on as 1:1 scale based on the DS9TM figures as I could with 1x1x1 blocks.
