138. Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (A-)
Sapphire still needs to be slapped for insisting on that title.
I picked this up for $5 at Canadian Tire; this is the first time I've seen it since watching it in theatres when it first came out. It holds up pretty well. Since seeing it, I've seen some of Spike Lee's work, and it's obvious that Lee Daniels' style has been influenced by it a lot. The acting is still terrific, from the almost entirely female ensemble (the only male part of even the tiniest importance being Lenny Kravitz). I still don't understand why so much praise went to Mariah Carey over Paula Patton, though. Not to say Carey's bad, mind you.
