While I don't expect anything for a while, I wouldn't be surprised if there have been some 'informal' chats hinting that maybe after the next movie comes out it may be a good idea to start thinking about starting to think about what might be able to happen if someone maybe came up with an idea that might be worth thinking about. Isn't it time we just let the franchise die? It had its run, you can't really stretch it forever (IMO).
As long as there are profits to be made, Star Trek will live... in one form or another. Will it be the Star Trek defined by your mind? Maybe not, but it will live as long as the owners of the Star Trek property are willing to keep investing.
