Governor Jindal is of Indian descent. He's not an "uppity black man." The racial stereotypes regarding Indians, especially those who are considered accomplished, are different from the stereotypes about African-Americans. |
I think that is also a factor. I remember one of Chinese American friends telling me that her parents were opposed to her dating an African American guy a few years earlier but when she eventually married her Indian American boyfriend, they had no problems even though both were similarly dark skinned and had similar paying jobs. The stereotyping of Indians is far more positive than the one of Africans.
But then again Indians are also Asian and the Chinese may find it easier to relate to their fellow Asians.
