The fundamental nature of this universe is that the zombie plague is an unknown that can't won't be answered. It's not a plot point, the interactions of the survivors are. If anything, I hope that they don't ever decide to explain anything about the plague. It's here, it's happening, it won't ever be cured. Deal with it.

Deal with it. ... Axel is actually quite a nice guy, albeit more of a biker dude than what we see here. There actually is another prisoner who isn't in the TV series, who is a serial murderer and claims two of Hershel's daughters who likewise don't exist in the series - this makes me nervous regarding Beth's immediate future. The bloodbath at the end of the prison arc claims a large number of the group too, but I'm sure that many of the cast won't make it that far...
