Sadly until the recent shenanigans in three certain books for the most part except for 3 cases where in 1) death was only for a few seconds, 2) the character was saved because of safety features in the area, and 3) being the only outrageous example people have stayed dead with this belief in death being a temporary inconvenience being a fanon myth. And in the first two examples they weren't even dead long enough to warrant any reaction since they back pretty quickly.
