163. Chinatown (A+)
Chinatown: Still a classic after all these years, I can't think of a single thing wrong with this movie. It is beautifully photographed, well-directed, tightly-written, perfectly-acted, and nicely scored by Jerry Goldsmith (mixing a romantic theme evocative of movies of the period with his more modernist tendencies of the 70s). I still haven't seen the 1990 follow-up, but reviews suggest it doesn't compare to this film.
