Both sides wanted Martha on their show, they couldn't decide amongst themselves as adults and sharing wasn't an option so she was given the choice of which show to be on. Idk why they didn't just recast the other role/and/or why the character was dropped. Who knows that's just the rumor/story I've heard from several people over the years.
