Re: Would Nemesis have been better if Jonathan Frakes had directed?
I went to see NEM a few times at the theatre when it first came out. I usually do this for Trek and Batman films as I enjoy the communal experience as well as the big screen and big sound. With NEM, though, it was more like "giving it a second and third chance in case I missed something important." The thing is, I really disliked this film at first and thought that maybe it was me so I went back to make sure. This is a weak film in which the writer just didn't know the characters and how to write for them successfully. When you discuss the plot, it sounds good, but the execution was weak. The characters were out-of-character most of the time, although not all of the time. Unlike GEN, which gets worse for me with every viewing, NEM improves. I'll never see it as a great film but it doesn't suck nearly as bad as GEN and certainly not as bad as TFF. What bothers me most about this film is that it did so poorly at the theatres that we may never see TNG on TV or at the movies ever again. That's unforgivable
