's defense, go back and read a bunch of early Silver Age "Supergirl" comics. The movie really isn't all that different in tone from the original Mort Weisinger-era comics, which were indeed aimed at children . . .
It's not like they were adapting Alan Moore or something . . . or even Lee/Kirby!
