98. Wild Strawberries (A)
Back to the Bergman well, another of his 50s films. This debuted the same year as The Seventh Seal
, and is similarly preoccupied with death (as Bergman would be pretty much from this point on) -- though this movie also manages a few laughs at the characters' incessantly debating theology (I'm reminded of George Orwell's comments about Graham Greene in his review of The Heart of the Matter
). Beautifully shot, well-acted, and interesting to consider.
