Robin Hood: Men in Tights
: I finally got around to seeing this one, which seems to be in line with Mel Brooks later work as a filmmaker. In other words, there are some good (even great) jokes, but it's never as inspired as a whole in the way that his earlier films could be (I'm thinking of The Producers
, Young Frankenstein
, and Blazing Saddles
). The finale struck me as especially lazy, consisting primarily of jokes and actors from previous Brooks movies, without adding anything new to the material (except for Patrick Stewart, who kills in a delightful turn as King Richard).
