Well, they'd depleated the shields, and were targeting engines. But, of course, the over-powered core, and all that....
“Twenty percent…six…they’re down, Captain!”
Ezri swallowed, as she stared at the screen. “Can you target their engines?”
“I can try, Cap—”
“No good!” Oliana called out. “Their power’s near overload as it is. Firing on them anywhere would—”
“Noted, Lieutenant,” Ezri quietly said.
Also, you may recall Gleer challenged Sam Bowers on exactly that--so...for T'Latrek to repeat those points would be redundant. As befits a Vulcan, logic would demand she only ask questions that have not been satisfactorally answered.
