, the description of Vaughn at the Vahni Vahtupali memorial service when he sees them start to change colors and then realizes that they were singing was one of the first TrekLit moments that ever really hit me square in the chest. Seeing them again in PoN and briefly referenced in RtD had much the same effect.

Kira Nerys is, bar none, my favorite character Star Trek has ever created. I could list a million reasons why, but I think it's just simpler to say that she is. And I guess I understand why people get upset when a favorite character dies. But, like all forms of genre, I don't like death being cheap, so it would really bother me if some future author wanted to bring her back. I know that's why they left it ambiguous, but she died saving her friend, saving Bajor, saving the Federation, and serving the Prophets. Which, I think, is exactly what she would have wanted. Not a regret for a single moment. That's why the hero is the hero.
