I thought this was great. Granted it spent much time covering what happened in Zero Sum Game
and Rough Beasts of Empire,
but I think this did a better job. Smoothing over the final characterization of Sarina Douglas, and making the whole "Sisko leaves his family" storyline more believable and palatable.
I appreciate how the entire Typhon Pact is shown as not homogenous, even within their own races. How their elements that really want peace, and not just out and out warmongers. Most of the "bad guys" really do have a point in feeling threatened by the Federation, just as the Feds would if the situation was reversed.
Though a minor point, I also like the integration of crews. Romulan ships with Breen crew.. Starfleet ships with Cardassian crew due to greater partnerships of the expanded Khitomer Accords. This is cool stuff.
Can't wait for part 2. Easily my favorite Typhon Pact book.
