I don't think I agree. Humanity tends to react one way and one way only when they feel threatened, and once superheroes went "realistic" rather than straight on wish fulfillment, the only logical narrative arc is this one. If one superhuman showed up (say, Superman), that's one thing; in the shared universe, something like a hundred show up in a space of two years? That's terrifying - even the unfolding of human law is threatened by a wave of god-like beings who routinely act against it or (at best) above it.
