59. Me and Orson Welles (B)
Me and Orson Welles
: This movie doesn't break any barriers, but it makes for solid entertainment. Christian McKay has been widely praised for his performance as Orson Welles; I thought he nailed the voice, but was a little old for the part (Welles was 22 when he staged Julius Caesar
; McKay was about 35 when he made the movie). Zac Efron is passable as the lead, if a bit over the top at points (the script is no help; it's never quite believable that he could be so whiny and naive around the people of the Mercury Theatre). Claire Danes is breathtaking as the chief love interest (also, way out of Efron's league). Richard Linklaiter's direction gets the job done, although it isn't as impressive as the filmmaker's work in animation.
