I'm more curious on why the time jump and how it fits into the immediate narration.
And by extension of your above thought, why does Walter not look any older than he does now? Unless the show takes place in both the present and 2036, but judging from the picture above, I'm guessing that Walter somehow skips over the intervening 24 years.
