^ I thought it was over the top and out of character. Shyness doesn't eqaul comedic buffoonery, unless he was going though a manic episode or something.
It's nice Piller and company were able to incorporate him into the show, especially given the insistance from Roddenberry that everyone on the ship be essentially without personal flaws.
Did Roddenberry really insist on that? Or is that something that gets embellished by fans over time?
It's also very funny the way that they introduced him - particularly with an out-and-out holodeck fantasy.
When I first saw that, I thought... Oh boy. He's going to be a real troublemaker.
