I was never a big fan on non-canon MU tales, but that was before the first Abrams-verse Star Trek movie. This was a well-thought out story told from the point-of-view of one of Empress Sato's consorts. In a universe where everyone is motivated by one's personal ambitions, at least this Travis has some shred of humanity in him.
I did catch your reference Daranaea. I would imagine life is even worse for the women of that species or is more egalitarian. And of course, Daniels being the father of one of Hoshi's children. Makes me wonder if Jun is at all similar to John Connor from the
Terminator movie franchise.
