Margot wasn't hideous or ugly, but she didn't have that timeless beauty quality that some other Lois's have had since. She was right for the part and how it was written in my opinion. She was a feisty and headstrong Lois Lane.
She did the part very well. Coming from the George Reeves 'Adventures of Supermen' perspective, I never pictured Lois for her physical beauty, but for her 'take no prisoners' attitude, rather than 'woman as coffee bearer' for the hero more frequently seen when I was a kid. My qualm with Kidder's Lane was in scripting as she often came off less smart than I prefer Lois to be.
