Well even the Christopher Reeve Superman wasn't all-powerful. He was often shown struggling at different points-- whether trying to catch up with a missle, wincing at an explosion, or getting knocked around by light poles and sewer covers. Hell, after getting knocked senseless by that bus, even
taking off seemed to require a bit of effort.
And yeah, he was able to turn the Earth backwards, but he was clearly straining and using every ounce of his power to do it.
