Silent films, I think, are an acquired taste. Last year I watched The General
(1926) and I was blown away. When I saw Tokyo no kôrasu
[Tokyo Chorus] (1931) early in 2011 I truly became a fan of silent film and of Japanese director Ozu. Watching the German films Metropolis
(1927) and Das Kabinet des Dr Caligari
[The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari] (1920) has really cemented by appreciation for the genre.
