The more I think about it, the idea of a Star Trek captain being played by someone who is relatively known for another role was really a Berman-era thing (Brooks was largely known for Spenser For Hire
and A Man Named Hawk
; Mulgrew was still remembered for her time on Ryan's Hope
; and of course Bakula for Quantum Leap
). A new producer may go the Roddenberry and Abrams route and cast someone who has a number of screen credits to his or her name, but isn't that
familiar a face in Hollywood like Shatner, Stewart, and Pine were.
