On further reflection I've got to say that I really disliked the ending.
Now, I understand that Marvel is more interested in building its movie brand as some kind of mega-franchise than they are in the quality of their individual movies simply as stand-alone films.
If Captain America
were really a movie made for the sake of making a good movie, though, and the potential beginning of a Really Damned Good movie series, they'd have left him in his proper milieu at end.
I'd pay to see another World War II Captain America
movie on the big screen - more than once, if it were as good as this one. The period aspects of the thing give it some real charm and make it remarkable among the current Super Hero Bloat. Give up Hayley Atwell to satisfy some "grand" franchising scheme? Cap in 2011? Not so much. He's just another big guy with issues, wearing tights.
