The only thing I really didn't like was Dixon the Cliched Racist. Like, were we supposed to feel bad that he was getting left behind? Because I sure as hell didn't. I probably would have shot him in the head to put him our of his misery, but I wouldn't have been upset that I couldn't save him.
I would have shot him too but we have to realize these characters are at the beginning of their journey. They are still stuck to the old rules of society.

I only made it as far as the "Officer Friendly" scene so far, but there's a couple of things I don't understand. First, why was he in such a hurry to get out of the tank? Couldn't he just wait a while for the Zombies to wander off, and then find a better escape route? A lot of the roads were completely clear when he arrived.
See the sweat that was coming off him? It wasn't from running. Any tank can get very hot just sitting there in the sun. Stay there too long without water or AC (and thats if the tank has one which I doubt) and he dies.

Second, what's the advantage of camping out in the open rather than finding a secure place to hunker down? The campers don't seem to be going anywhere; they seem to have created a very vulnerable encampment.
Rookies. They haven't learned yet what they are truly facing. Give it time.

For anyone who has read the comic, do they explain how the Walking Dead came to be?
No. But they will eventually figure out how you become one.

And, with the racist and the key....I really wished the guy hadn't dropped it. Easy out. I really wish the guy had said, suck it, and chucked the key. I want to see people start acting like this is a world without rules. I want to see people struggling with humanity. Basically, I felt like it was an easy out, having the key fall into a whole.
Time. Give it time. They have not yet separated themselves from the old society rules.

This was pretty well done. The Zombie disguise sequence was very suspenseful, with the ominous rumblings of thunder, followed by the rain (although it did end pretty quickly and conveniently). The Zombies seem to have an eerie intelligence sometimes. And some of them can really move if they want to; I hope they don't overdo that.
Perhaps the intelligence of the Zombie is based on the intelligence of the human. If you were a very smart person you're liable to be a smart Zombie. Smart in terms of doing certain things.

I also think that even though you're a Zombie your brain still holds memories and that can help you in your Zombie goal of hunting down people to eat. You know there are two people in this house and if you turn this knob you can get in the house and eat them. However you don't remember that the people you want to eat are your husband and kid.

I'm waiting to see if they do anything with that one particular Zombie that got off the bus when Rick rode by. The Zombie with the black hair and black suit. When Rick jumped up to close the hatch on the top of the tank that Zombie stood out from the crowd in the way it looked at him. There was somthing there besides thoughts of food. At least IMHO.....

I loved the scene where they took time to recognize the identity of the guy they had to chop up.

The last scene with Glenn on the highway was hilarious. Although I find it hard to believe that the inbound lanes would be empty like that; lots of people would have tried to get out that way, too.
Actually I believe it. People are bound by rules. Even criminals. Most people wouldn't even think of crossing over to the other side.

It's also possible that plenty did and that is why the road is empty as well. I sure as would have gone on that road.

Also, I think the sex (between the wife and the best friend) was just a one-time even that was revealed later in the storyline.

It's been a long time since I read the opening story arcs, so I could be wrong.
You're not wrong. They are deviating on this point.

I thought it was a bit odd that they could hop the fence but couldn't figure out the ladder.
I think they did figure out the ladder but they were crowded and the ladder was too high up for a Zombie too pull it's weight up. (The ladder didn't go all the way down to the ground)

The fence was easier to handle. It does go to the ground and it's easier to climb.
