Yeah. I didn't really do my homework before I started playing--I had no idea there were those "Creepers" who blow up when they get near you. The first time it happened I didn't even see it so I wasn't sure
what the hell happened, I just heard an explosion and I was dead.
I did manage to kill one yesterday and discovered that's how you get gunpowder.
