That all depends on what you mean by "name". Superman: The Movie
had a "name" director and a "name" writer and it turned out great. Superman Returns
didn't have "name" writers and I wouldn't necessarily call Singer a "name" director, but that movie tended to be disliked by many.
Very true..SUPERMAN had two name actors (Brando and Hackman..even Glen Ford) to lure in the public. I dont think Donner was a name actor at the time, but definately Mario Puzo was big....
