Carrying on the family business is exactly what it is, in fact. Lincoln Enterprises (originally Star Trek Enterprises) was founded by Gene and Majel in 1967 and is now headed by Rod Roddenberry, operating via the website.

No, that doesn't lend his opinion of the movie that much more weight than the average person's, but in the past he's generally come out as a supporter of Star Trek projects because he actually likes them, rather than simply because it's more profitable for him. He's a fan with a somewhat unique perspective.

I think a lot of people would wanna distance themselves from "that nerdy trek thing" but he is in it to carry on the legacy and pick up where his parents left off with the family business!
