I very much doubt this movie will surpass Wise's; in terms of sheer cerebral ambition, TMP is unsurpassed: it's always been Star Trek's closest approach to 2001. (Despite the wide space between the former and the latter, no doubt).

It sounds like Nimoy is impressed by the amount of $$$ that they shoveled into this picture. Very well and good. (I mean that sincerely). But he shouldn't (since we the audience won't) confuse the expense of a movie with the expanse of a movie. I think that the two have become dangerously conflated in hollywood over the last decade.
