IN my opinion, the book "Mere Mortals" wasn't very good at all. Far worse than the first book in the trilogy.
It would take a new thread to list all my problems with the book.
1) Way too long. On the order of 100 pages at least. It is like we had to read about all 800 years of Hernandez's captivity.
2) The book is supposed to be about the Borg attack. Yet the encounters with the Borg are virtually nonexistent. The battle with the Hirogen at the end takes up more page space than the conflicts with the Borg.
3) How can you have an armada of 7,400 Borg ships engage a huge allied force and NOT SHOW THE BATTLE AT ALL!!! This isn't Wolf-359 where a show doesn't have the budget.
On the upside.
David Mack at least abandoned all the ST:TNG characters characterization and development that he had packed into his earlier novels.
I'm tired of characters in their 50s and 60s having to "grow" in some way.
