If you keep an open mind like I suggest a person would never run out of sci-fi shows to follow, I've been watching sci-fi on TV for decades and never ran out because of being more open minded, I'm still critical and have my favorites however, but if a person is one of those "ugh this is old! this is animated that stuff is for kids!" yeah you are going to run out of stuff to watch.
I know what you mean. I've been trying to interest my best friend in Babylon 5 for years. He won't watch it because, as he says "That's more fantasy than science fiction". A view he has, despite never having seen a single frame of it.

The irony is, he loves Star Wars, which is alot closer to fantasy than it is to sci-fi.
