Cupcake (spoilers)

I found myself thinking about this - the (rather chubby) cadet Kirk calls Cupcake and fights is assigned to the Enterprise three years later, and calls him Cupcake in return when he apprehends Kirk and Scotty when they beam back aboard the Enterprise.

Isn't that a bit long to hold a grudge just for one incident? Or maybe we're meant to assume that Kirk and Cupcake didn't like each other throughout Starfleet Academy...

Or its a simple joke that the audience understands.

Same kind of joke as "I might throw up on you". 3 year delay.

Don't read too much into it; of course it's way too long to hold a grudge.

But I loved it and laughed. So did the rest of the audience. :D

Some people hold a grudge for quite a while...

Though I imagine the fella HAD gotten over it...running across Kirk again while he was causing more trouble just momentarily stirred up old memories.

Okay, from now on, Cupcake is Finnegan in my mind!

Cupcake = Finnegan?

I was just thinking about something while watching Shore Leave. Could Cupcake have been Finnegan?

Sorry if this has already been discussed.

That is a cute notion. Someone should throw it at Orci over at Trekmovie, and see what he says.

Hmmm. I wouldn't think so, because he's serving on the Enterprise, right?

Wasn't Finnegan just a thorn in Kirk's side at the Academy?

Plus, he was Irish.

And how do you know Cupcake wasn't?

By Irish, I meant from Ireland, complete with accent (watch "Shore Leave").

Yeah, but an awful lot of cadets got assigned to ships in a hurry in this movie who might not have been there in the oldTrek universe because this crisis didn't happen.
